You describe your various art-making practices so beautifully and I absolutely feel the same way about mine! It's as if you have read my notes, as yet half-scribbled, about the story of maker and materials as I am fascinated by this too and see it played out in every piece I create. Particularly that relationship as we create with nature itself. I want to see the maker's hand in art and not something considered 'perfect'. I believe we will still be seeking that human connection one with another even as AI becomes more prevalent, I just hope it is used for good purposes.

Absolutely, Lou! I feel especially blessed to have found a medium that is truly independent of technology in various ways - with the loadshedding I have been glad I am independent of electricity and with this new digital story, I once again find myself so very relieved!

Thanks for the link, and your thoughts about the human experience Nicola. The speed of AI innovation is impressive. Reminds me of Deep Blue 2 the Chess computer. I think it's still undefeated.

Thanks for taking the time to read it! I think you may enjoy watching AlphaGo if you have not seen it! It is another example of computers beating humans in what was once thought impossible...

What an evocative piece that could ONLY have been written by you, Nicola.

I'm quite an optimist in general. (And, okay, avoidant of things that scare me!)

I think I like the idea that AI could be a tool to help us like any other creative tool.

I am always curious about the maker. Like you so beautifully point out, I'm always wondering, who made this? What were they thinking at the time? Where did this come from? It deepens my connection with the piece. So, whilst I'm sure I've already been moved in some way by AI creations, we will never be able to replicate this human element, no matter how sophisticated the AI gets. And I think we'll see a shift of more people craving this human, artisan, crafted art. We shall see! But in the mean time, artists are always gonna be creating aren't we!?

Yes!! I agree. I think a lot of the musings happen when we are procrastinating and stalling. I got all anxious listening to a podcast where they were talking about watermarks and trying to protect images. I am confused by that - right now I am not well know enough that it matters and when I am well known then people will take photos of my art anyway... 😁😂

Yeah, just crack on with the creating.

We could spend 24/7 'learning' and we still wouldn't know enough. It's all moving so fast.

This is exactly why so much of what I try and embody in my making process is slowness. Not that I get it right so much of the time, but sometimes I manage... process not perfection!!
